Theft increases among farmers

Share article

According to a report by Larmtjänst, the number of stolen construction machinery broke a record in 2021. Long delivery times, increased raw material prices, skyrocketing diesel prices, the war in Ukraine and inflation lead many to believe that theft will increase even more in 2022.

Damage prevention measures

We contacted Fredrik Ottersten at Länsförsäkringar to find out what preventive measures companies can take.

  1. Use locks – Any area where machinery, hand tools or other valuable inputs are stored, e.g., in a locked room. chemicals and fertilizers, should be locked with a Class 3 lock and any windows should have bars.
  2. Empty the machines yourself – bring in GPS and similar equipment when you are done for the day.
  3. Be observant – It is common for thieves to “do their homework” before breaking in, so be vigilant if you see a car or people who should not be in the yard.

Tracking devices A and O

In many cases where stolen machinery and vehicles have been recovered, there is a common denominator – a tracking device has been installed that the thieves did not know about.

  • Some new machines have built-in trackers connected to the battery, but if thieves know where to look, it doesn’t take many seconds to cut the wires and the whole point of the tracker is lost. – Klas Wassberg, Business Unit Manager

GSGroup trackers are small and easy to install as they don’t need an external power source, making them difficult for thieves to detect.
