Rental car stolen during rental and recovered after police chase

Share article

In the middle of the snowstorm that hit Sweden in early November, a man walked into a car rental agency and asked to rent a car because the train he was supposed to take was canceled. When the car was not returned, the lessor contacted GSGroup.

When GSGroup’s emergency services located the car, they realized that the person who rented the car had no intention of returning it. The police were contacted and given the coordinates of the location of the car.

The police realized that the car was in use and to prevent the car from disappearing out of the country, a police car was sent directly to the location indicated by the coordinates. After a while, the police spotted the car and signaled the driver to stop. The driver chose instead to try to outrun the police and the police were forced to give chase.

After a while, the driver crashed into another car and then into a building. The driver left the car on foot and ran into a nearby forest and was not found.

No one was seriously injured in the crash and the car is now in a workshop.

When we contact the renter, he is grateful that he had a tracker in the car, but resigned.

– Unfortunately, it is much more common today that the cars you rent out are not returned. Sometimes it is enough to call and nag the customer to return the car but sometimes, as in this case, it is necessary to contact GSGroup and the police. This should not be the case.

Hi there,

Notice something new? GSGroup is now GSFleet. Take a look at our brand new website. Hope you like it.
